The Mayor of Solihull has opened a £7million extra care living scheme in Chelmsley Wood.

Solihull Community Housing staged a special ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of Saxon Court, a 51-unit state of the art development.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Flo Nash, said: “Providing supportive accommodation that meets the needs of older people is a priority for all local authorities. Saxon Court is exactly the type of facility we need and I hope the residents enjoy living there.”

The quality apartments each have their own kitchen and wet room, while the extensive open plan ground floor is designed to encourage communal living. A wellbeing co-ordinator will promote a range of activities designed to forge a thriving Saxon Court community.

Residents will also be able to enjoy a wide range of facilities, including:

  • Resident lounge
  • Hair salon
  • Beauty Room
  • Hobby Room
  • Garden Access

Fiona Hughes, Chief Executive of Solihull Community Housing, added: “Saxon Court is a wonderful building which we are all very proud of. The first residents to move in already feel at home and once the building is fully occupied by March it will become a vibrant hub of activity with residents at the centre of everything that takes place.”

A Court Manager will ensure the smooth running of Saxon Court throughout the day while staff from care provider Universal will be on hand to support residents with specific care needs.

Councillor Tony Dicicco, Cabinet Member for the Environment and Housing, said: “Saxon Court is a very impressive scheme and I’m confident that the residents will enjoy living there. This is exactly the type of supportive living scheme we need to provide for older people in Solihull.”
